30-DAY STORYLEARNING® CHALLENGE

Declension Demystified

Take our fluency-boosting September challenge and master German declension once and for all... so you can finally speak German with accuracy and confidence!

Start Date: September 1st

Level: A2/B1 (Upper Beginner / Lower Intermediate)

If you struggle with the declension in German, then I’ve got news for you…

You’re not alone!

In fact, German learners from Vienna to Berlin have a hard time learning to decline articles and adjectives correctly.

Declensions are confusing in German because there are so many and it’s often impossible to remember...

  • Which of the four German cases you need
  • Whether the word you’ve declined is masculine, feminine or neuter?
  • Which prepositions trigger which cases
  • The type of article which precedes an adjective or noun
  • … and which declensions are exceptions to the usual rules!

Trying to hold all the rules and declension tables in your head can feel like mission impossible...

Let alone choosing the correct one to use while face-to-face with a native German speaker!

But it’s not just choosing between the different cases that drives German learners crazy…

It's all the vague terminology — "weak declension, strong declension, mixed declension”...

  • Why is it “das schöne Sofa” but “ein schönes Sofa”?
  • And then you also have “schönes Sofa!"

And what on earth is the difference anyway?

Worst of all… get it wrong and you risk changing the meaning of your sentence altogether!

It’s enough to make you want to throw in the towel!

But fear not…

Declension doesn’t have to be so confusing

And it doesn’t have to mean memorising charts.

In fact, it can be downright simple with the right approach.

And that’s why I’ve created this unique 30-Day Challenge - “Declension Demystified”.

This challenge will help you master intermediate level German declension in just 30 days, so you can express yourself confidently and correctly in colourful, flowing German.

In this challenge, we’ll go beyond the basics of the cases and focus on the trickiest aspects of German declension - the ones that all too often hold students back from becoming truly confident, fluent German speakers.

By the end of this challenge, you’ll know exactly when you need to use each case and how to decline them correctly in any context, so you can avoid embarrassing grammar mistakes and enjoy speaking German again!

Introducing the September Challenge:

"Declension Demystified"

With…

Here’s how the challenge works.

The challenge is based on an exciting original story in German that develops over the 30 days of the challenge.

This is a brand new story, written exclusively for this 30-Day Challenge.

We’ve created the story to be jam-packed with examples of German declensions used in ALL cases and in a variety of common situations.

You'll learn about adjective declension, which prepositions trigger which cases, how articles and adjectives work together in different cases... and much, much more!

Every day, you’ll receive one new chapter of the story, along with short video lessons and simple exercises to help you understand how German declension is used in the story.

It'll take you about 15 minutes each day.

All you have to do is show up every day…

Over the course of the month, the daily immersion will help you absorb declension naturally, until you "just know" instinctively when and how to use different declensions correctly.

The result...

You'll finally be able to express yourself confidently and correctly in German without making embarrassing beginner mistakes.

Here's What's Included...

The concept is beautifully simple!

Every day, for 30 days, you’ll get:

  • One 250-word chapter of our German story (jam-packed examples of German declension in context)
  • The written story plus audio book (so you can read or listen...wherever you are!)
  • A short 5-minute video lesson with our instructor, Holger. (He’ll explain the declensions in the story)
  • A short daily practice exercise (to help you remember what you’ve learned)
  • Discussion with dozens of fellow challengers in our interactive Facebook group (so you can discuss the story and get answers to questions).

We’ve carefully structured the entire 30 days, so all you have to do is turn up and get stuck in!

Frequently Asked Questions

What level is the challenge for?
Both the story and the lesson content is aimed at A2-B1 level. (That's high-beginner to low-intermediate). In other words, this is for you if you've been studying German for a little while (or maybe a long while!) and can understand at least some German, but struggle to use German cases in a comfortable and natural way.
How can I access the challenge?
Mobile, desktop, laptop, tablet... The challenge is super user-friendly and you'll be able to log on from anywhere!
What exactly will I learn? How will this challenge help me?
During this challenge, we'll focus on German declension in all cases and context, recycled over and over throughout the story. You'll see German adjective and article declensions in every imaginable context over and over in the story. This means you'll master the subtle ways in which they are used to the point where they're effortless and automatic and you instinctively know how and when to use them.
What if it's too hard, or my level is too low?
To make the challenge achievable, we've kept each chapter short - only 250 words! This means that you'll be able to easily make it to the end of the chapter each day, even if it does take you a little longer. However, the daily video lessons will give you all the support you need, as you'll have clear, professional explanations of how the declensions are used in the story. This means that, even if you're really unsure about German declension right now, just by watching and studying the daily videos, you'll learn to think about it like a native speaker by the end of the challenge. If I had my way, this is the only way students would ever learn German!
What's so special about this "StoryLearning" method anyway?
Most German students try to learn declension through charts and rote memorisation. This doesn't work, and is extremely stressful for you as a learner. Why? Because there are lots of declensions in each case and it's impossible to hold them all in your head at the same time while you're speaking. It's also not a natural approach ... native speakers don't learn with memory tricks, after all! With the "Declension Demystified" challenge, you'll learn through example and context, just like native speakers do! The magic of learning through story is that your main focus is actually not on the memorising anything... you concentrate on understanding and enjoying the story! As you're reading and listening to the story, these declensions will begin to lodge themselves subconsciously in your brain. It doesn't happen right away - in fact it may take a couple of weeks for you to feel the real effects. But by the end of the 30 days, you'll have a native-like command of these German declensions that will amaze you.
I'm not sure I can commit for 30 days
Your daily commitment is only 15 minutes. This is because the principle of the challenge is that "little and often is the best way to learn". 15 minutes is a pretty manageable amount of time to devote to your German. You can fit it in comfortably: • before breakfast • during your lunch break • after dinner • ...even while waiting for the bus! The power is in the consistency - working at it for a short time every day. You'll be amazed at the huge progress you make from simply showing up every day to work on one area of your German! Remember, you get the audio of the story, as well as the text, so you can easily take part and keep up wherever you happen to be!
What if I am unhappy with the challenge?
I would never want you to be unhappy! If you are unsatisfied with the challenge, contact me at any point during the challenge and I'll issue you full and prompt refund.
How long do I have access to the course after the end of the challenge?
How does lifetime access sound? After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like - across any and all devices you own.
