30-DAY STORYLEARNING® CHALLENGE

Master Modal Verbs

Master German modal verbs in all tenses in the next 30 days and "unblock" your German with our July challenge!

Start Date: July 1st

Level: A2/B1 (Upper Beginner / Lower Intermediate)

Do you feel like your German is basic and limited to simple sentences and everyday interactions?

Do you struggle to express nuanced thoughts and participate fully in German conversations like an intelligent adult?

Then I’ve got news for you…

You’re not alone!

In fact, German learners the world over have a hard time going from “competent beginner” to expressing their ideas, thoughts and feelings confidently in German.

The result...

You're left feeling like a lost child instead of the intelligent and articulate adult you are!

It's easy to feel like you'll never truly unlock the secret to more interesting and meaningful German conversations. It's just one of those things you'll have to live with, right?

Well, not so fast...

You see, there’s one aspect of German that, when you master it, unlocks those possibilities more than any other… German modal verbs.

Modal verbs are the essential building blocks of German conversation, used to express ability, necessity, obligation, permission or possibility.

Verbs like:

  • dürfen (be allowed to/may)
  • können (be able to/can)
  • mögen (to like)
  • müssen (to have to/must)
  • sollen (to ought to/should)
  • wollen (to want to)

On the surface these verbs seem easy, but when you dive into it, there’s A LOT to get your head around...

  • Where to put the modal verbs in your sentences
  • Which tense to use the modal verb in to express your intended meaning (this is tricky!)
  • Knowing which modal verbs that behave like false cognates and can’t simply be translated from English!

It’s enough to make you want to give up.

But fear not… help is at hand!

I’ve created a unique 30-Day Challenge, "Master Modal Verbs", that will help you learn and internalise German modal verbs naturally, so you can express yourself like never before and enjoy more profound and meaningful German conversations.

No more clumsy disjointed German.

No more embarrassing modal verb mistakes.

And most importantly...

No more feeling stuck and unable to express yourself when you chat with your German-speaking family and friends.

Introducing the July Challenge:

"Master Modal Verbs"

With...

Here’s how the challenge works.

The challenge is based on an exciting original story in German that develops over the 30 days of the challenge.

This is a brand new story, written exclusively for this 30-Day Challenge.

We’ve created the story to be jam-packed with hundreds of examples of the most important German modal verbs.

Every day, you’ll receive one new chapter of the story, along with an insightful video lesson and simple exercises to help you understand how these German verbs work in the story.

It'll take you about 15 minutes each day.

All you have to do is show up every day…

Over the course of the month, the daily immersion will help you absorb fluency-boosting German modal verbs naturally, until they just “sound right” and you can use them instinctively and confidently to bring life to your spoken German.

The result is that you'll be able to speak and understand German confidently without worrying about making mistakes or getting stuck for words.

You’ll be able to speak German more freedom and fluency, because the modal verbs you need will already be where you need them - on the tip of your tongue!

Here's What's Included...

The concept is beautifully simple!

Every day, for 30 days, you’ll get:

  • One 250-word chapter of our German story (jam-packed with examples of essential German modal verbs in context)
  • The written story plus audio book (so you can read or listen...wherever you are!)
  • An insightful daily video lesson with our instructor, Logan. (He'll explain the different mdal verbs used in the story)
  • A short daily practice exercise (to help you remember what you’ve learned)
  • Discussion with dozens of fellow challengers in our interactive Facebook group (so you can discuss the story and get answers to questions).

We’ve carefully structured the entire 30 days, so all you have to do is turn up and get stuck in!

Frequently Asked Questions

What level is the challenge for?
Both the story and the lesson content is aimed at A2-B1 level. (That's high-beginner to low-intermediate). In other words, this is for you if you've been studying German for a little while (or maybe a long while!) and can understand at least some German, but struggle to use German modal verbs in a comfortable and natural way.
How can I access the challenge?
Mobile, desktop, laptop, tablet... The challenge is super user-friendly and you'll be able to log on from anywhere!
What exactly will I learn? How will this challenge help me?
During this challenge, we'll focus on German modal verbs. You'll see the most essential and useful German modal verbs recycled over and over throughout the story. This means you'll learn how German modal verbs and adverbs work to the point where they are effortless and automatic and you can use and understand them instinctively. You'll get daily lessons from Logan, where you'll learn specifically how and why certain modal verbs are used in each example. This means you'll develop an intuitive and native-like understanding of how to use them yourself.
What if it's too hard, or my level is too low?
To make the challenge achievable, we've kept each chapter short - only 250 words! This means that you'll be able to easily make it to the end of the chapter each day, even if it does take you a little longer. However, the daily video lessons will give you all the support you need, as you'll have clear, professional explanations of how the modal verbs are used in the story. This means that, even if you're really unsure about German modal verbs right now, just by watching and studying the daily videos, you'll learn to think about them like a native speaker by the end of the challenge. If I had my way, this is the only way students would ever learn German!
What's so special about this "StoryLearning" method anyway?
Most German students try to learn modal verbs through rules and memory tricks. This doesn't work, and is extremely stressful for you as a learner. Why? Because there are tons of rules to learn and it's impossible to hold them all in your head at the same time while you're speaking if you rely on memory tricks. It's also not a natural approach ... native speakers don't expand their vocabulary with rules, after all! With the "Master Modal Verbs" challenge, you'll learn through example and context, just like native speakers do! The magic of learning through story is that your main focus is actually not on the grammar or learning new vocabulary... you concentrate on understanding and enjoying the story! As you're reading and listening to the story, the verbs will begin to lodge themselves subconsciously in your brain. It doesn't happen right away - in fact it may take a couple of weeks for you to feel the real effects. But by the end of the 30 days, you'll have a native-like command of German modal verbs that will amaze you.
I'm not sure I can commit for 30 days
Your daily commitment is only 15 minutes. This is because the principle of the challenge is that "little and often is the best way to learn". 15 minutes is a pretty manageable amount of time to devote to your German. You can fit it in comfortably: • before breakfast • during your lunch break • after dinner • ...even while waiting for the bus! The power is in the consistency - working at it for a short time every day. You'll be amazed at the huge progress you make from simply showing up every day to work on one area of your German! Remember, you get the audio of the story, as well as the text, so you can easily take part and keep up wherever you happen to be!
What if I am unhappy with the challenge?
I would never want you to be unhappy! If you are unsatisfied with the challenge, contact me at any point during the challenge and I'll issue you full and prompt refund.
How long do I have access to the course after the end of the challenge?
How does lifetime access sound? After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like - across any and all devices you own.
