The challenge is based on an exciting original story in French that develops over the 30 days of the challenge.

This is a brand new story, written exclusively for this 30-Day Challenge.

Unlike normal stories, this story is jam-packed with colloquial spoken French. All of the key aspects that make spoken French different from "textbook French" are covered in our challenge.:

  • Phonetic rules like liaison, enchâinements, mispronounced words and the pronunciation of the letter "e"
  • "Shortened stuff" like abbreviations, words that get merged together and words that are skipped in spoken French
  • "Added stuff", including random words like "euh", "ben" and "tiens" that native speakers use often in conversation
  • French slang and colloquial words that you won't find it any textbook!

But it's not just the story...

Every day, you’ll receive an amazing package of training to help you decode the French you hear in the story, such as daily video lessons, audio, and exercises.

It'll take you about 15 minutes each day.

All you have to do is show up every day…

What level is the challenge for?
Both the story and the lesson content is aimed at A2-B1 level. (That's high-beginner to low-intermediate) In other words, this is for you if you've been studying French for a little while (or maybe a long while!), can understand at least some French, but struggle to express yourself in a comfortable and natural way.
How can I access the challenge?
Mobile, desktop, laptop, tablet... The challenge is super user-friendly and you'll be able to log on from anywhere!
What exactly will I learn? How will this challenge help me?
During this challenge, we'll focus on spoken French and how it differs from written French and "textbook French". You'll see examples of natural spoken French recycled over and over throughout the story. This means you'll learn how spoken French works to the point where you can understand and us it effortlessly. You'll get daily lessons from Diane, where you'll learn why specifically how spoken French works in each chapter of our story. This means you'll develop an intuitive and native-like understanding of the language.
What if it's too hard, or my level is too low?
To make the challenge achievable, we've kept each chapter short - only 250 words! This means that you'll be able to easily make it to the end of the chapter each day, even if it does take you a little longer. However, the daily video lessons will give you all the support you need, as you'll have clear, professional explanations for how spoken French is used in the story. This means that, even if you're really unsure about spoken French right now, just by watching and studying the daily videos, you'll learn to think about the language like a native speaker by the end of the challenge. If I had my way, this is the only way students would ever learn French!
What's so special about this "StoryLearning" method anyway?
Most French students try to learn spoken French with textbook dialogues. This doesn't work, and is extremely stressful for you as a learner. Why? Because the French you'll find in your textbook is nothing like the way people speak in real life! It's also not a natural approach... With the "Spoken French Made Simple" challenge, you'll learn through example and context, just like native speakers do! The magic of learning through story is that your main focus is actually not on the "focus topic"... you concentrate on understanding and enjoying the conversations in our story! As you're reading and listening to the story, the quirks of spoken French will begin to lodge themselves subconsciously in your brain. It doesn't happen right away - in fact it may take a couple of weeks for you to feel the real effects. But by the end of the 30 days, you'll have a native-like command of the way the language is used in conversation.
I'm not sure I can commit for 30 days
Your daily commitment is only 15 minutes. This is because the principle of the challenge is little and often is the best way to learn. 15 minutes is a pretty manageable amount of time to devote to your French. You can fit it in comfortably: • before breakfast • during your lunch break • after dinner • ...even while waiting for the bus! The power is in the consistency - working at it for a short time every day. You'll be amazed at the huge progress you make from simply showing up every day to work on one area of your French! Remember, you get the audio of the story, as well as the text, so you can easily take part and keep up wherever you happen to be!
