30-DAY STORYLEARNING® CHALLENGE

Perfect Past Tenses

Master Italian past tenses in the next 30 days with our fluency-boosting February challenge!

Start Date: 1 February

Level: A2/B1 (Upper Beginner / Lower Intermediate)

If you struggle with past tenses in Italian, then I’ve got news for you…

You’re not alone!

In fact, Italian learners from Milan to Modena have a hard time learning to use the past tense the right way in Italian:

  • Memorising verb conjugations in different tenses
  • Remembering the irregular forms of difficult verbs
  • And choosing which of past tense to use in different situations

And doing all of that while face-to-face with a native Italian speaker!

Is it io mangiavo or io ho mangiato? And what's the difference anyway?

It’s enough to make you want to throw in the towel!

Well, not so fast...

Help is at hand!

I’ve created a unique 30-day challenge, "Perfect Past Tenses", that will help you learn and internalise the Italian past tenses, so you can speak clearly and accurately about events in the past...

And enjoy speaking Italian again!

Introducing the February Challenge:

"Perfect Past Tense"

With...

Here’s how the challenge works.

The challenge is based on an exciting original story in Italian that develops over the 30 days of the challenge.

This is a brand new story, written exclusively for this 30-Day Challenge.

We’ve created the story to be jam-packed with the dozens of the most common Italian verbs in the passato prossimo and imperfetto past tenses.

Every day, you’ll receive one new chapter of the story, along with short video lessons and simple exercises to help you understand the past tenses that you find in the story.

It'll take you about 15 minutes each day.

All you have to do is show up every day…

Over the course of the month, the daily immersion will help you absorb the past tenses naturally, until they just “sound right” to you.

You’ll be able to speak Italian in the past tense more freely and fluently, because the past tenses and verb conjugations you need will already be where you need them - on the tip of your tongue!

Here's What's Included...

The concept is beautifully simple!

Every day, for 30 days, you’ll get:

  • One 250-word chapter of our Italian story (jam-packed with examples of Italian past tenses in context)
  • The written story plus audio book (so you can read or listen...wherever you are!)
  • A short 5-minute video lesson with our instructor, Martina. (She'll explain the usage of the prepositions in the story)
  • A short daily practice exercise (to help you remember what you’ve learned)
  • Discussion with dozens of fellow challengers in our interactive Facebook group (so you can discuss the story and get answers to questions).

We’ve carefully structured the entire 30 days, so all you have to do is turn up and get stuck in!

Frequently Asked Questions

What level is the challenge for?
Both the story and the lesson content are aimed at A2-B1 level. (That's high-beginner to low-intermediate). In other words, this is for you if you've been studying Italian for a little while (or maybe a long while!) and can understand at least some Italian, but struggle to use prepositions in a comfortable and natural way.
How can I access the challenge?
Mobile, desktop, laptop, tablet... The challenge is super user-friendly and you'll be able to log on from anywhere!
What exactly will I learn? How will this challenge help me?
During this challenge, we'll focus on: • dozens of common Italian verbs • ...in both Italian past tenses • ...recycled over and over throughout the story You'll see these same verbs, in different past tenses, over and over in the story. This means you'll learn the various conjugations to the point where they're effortless and automatic. You'll get daily lessons from Martina, where you'll learn why specific past tenses were chosen in each chapter. This means you'll develop an intuitive and native-like understanding of how to choose the correct past tense in different situations.
What if it's too hard, or my level is too low?
To make the challenge achievable, we've kept each chapter short - only 250 words! This means that you'll be able to easily make it to the end of the chapter each day, even if it does take you a little longer. However, the daily video lessons will give you all the support you need, as you'll have clear, professional explanations for why the different past tenses are being used in the story. This means that, even if you're really unsure about the past tenses right now, just by watching and studying the daily videos, you'll learn to think about the past tenses like a native speaker by the end of the challenge. If I had my way, this is the only way students would ever learn Italian grammar!
What's so special about this "StoryLearning" method anyway?
Most Italian students try to learn the past tenses through rules. This doesn't work, and is extremely stressful for you as a learner. Why? Because there are lots of so-called "rules" and it's impossible to hold them all in your head at the same time while you're speaking. It's also not a natural approach ... native speakers don't learn grammar with rules, after all! With the "Perfect Past Tenses" challenge, you'll learn through example and context, just like native speakers do! The magic of learning through story is that your main focus is actually not on the grammar... you concentrate on understanding and enjoying the story! As you're reading and listening to the story, the past tenses will begin to lodge themselves subconsciously in your brain. It doesn't happen right away - in fact it may take a couple of weeks for you to feel the real effects. But by the end of the 30 days, you'll have a native-like command of the past tenses that will amaze you.
I'm not sure I can commit for 30 days
Your daily commitment is only 15 minutes. This is because the principle of the challenge is little and often is the best way to learn. 15 minutes is a pretty manageable amount of time to devote to your Italian. You can fit it in comfortably: • before breakfast • during your lunch break • after dinner • ...even while waiting for the bus! The power is in the consistency - working at it for a short time every day. You'll be amazed at the huge progress you make from simply showing up every day to work on one area of your Italian! Remember, you get the audio of the story, as well as the text, so you can easily take part and keep up wherever you happen to be!
What if I am unhappy with the challenge?
I would never want you to be unhappy! If you are unsatisfied with the challenge, contact me at any point during the challenge and I'll issue you full and prompt refund.
How long do I have access to the course after the end of the challenge?
How does lifetime access sound? After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like - across any and all devices you own.
