30-DAY STORYLEARNING® CHALLENGE

Victorious Verbal Expressions

Take our grammar-slaying, fluency-boosting March challenge and master Japanese verb expressions and advanced verb endings, once and for all!

Start Date: March 1st

Level: N4 (Upper Beginner / Lower Intermediate)

When you first start learning Japanese, verbs seem pretty easy…

Japanese verbs are not like verbs in Spanish, French or even English, after all.

  • You don’t have to worry about different conjugations for every person (e.g. I go, but he goes)
  • The present and future tense are the SAME in Japanese
  • Mastering the Japanese past tense is dead easy!

But as your Japanese level improves, it quickly becomes apparent that Japanese verbs are NOT as simple as they first seemed.

Here's the truth:

There's actually a lot going on with Japanese verbs!

Especially when they’re used in complex verbal expressions that require you to choose which particles and verb endings to use.

The benefit of mastering this crucial aspect of Japanese are BIG:

  • The ability to use complex grammatical structures with confidence and express almost anything you want in clear and confident Japanese

But when your brain is still struggling to untangle the verbal quagmire, those benefits seem like pie in the sky.

It’s enough to make you throw in the towel and give up on your Japanese dreams.

But look...

You’re not alone!

In fact, Japanese learners from Tokyo to Timbuktu have a hard time getting to grips with verbal expressions in Japanese.

  • Identifying Type I, Type II and Type III verbs and remembering the difference between them, so you can conjugate them correctly
  • Deciding if a verb is transitive or intransitive so you can choose the correct particle to use with it
  • And translating everything in your head before you speak because these verbal expressions feel so unnatural to you

And doing all of that while face-to-face with a native Japanese speaker!

It's easy to feel like you'll never truly get your head around Japanese verbal expressions. It's just one of those things you'll have to live with, right?

Well, not so fast...

Help is at hand!

I’ve created a unique 30-day challenge, "Victorious Verbal Expressions", that will help you learn and internalise Japanese verbal expressions, so you can express yourself confidently and correctly in conversation with native Japanese speakers.

No more boring grammar textbooks.

No more memorising rules.

And most importantly...

No more frustrating verb mistakes when you chat with your Japanese-speaking friends...

Introducing the March Challenge:

"Victorious Verbal Expressions"

With…

Here’s how the challenge works.

The challenge is based on an exciting original story in Japanese that develops over the 30 days of the challenge.

This is a brand new story, written exclusively for this 30-Day Challenge.

We’ve created the story to be jam-packed with examples of Japanese verbal expressions, transitive and intransitive verbs and much more!

Every day, you’ll receive one new chapter of the story, along with a short video lesson and simple exercises to help you understand how Japanese verbal expressions work in the story.

It'll take you about 15 minutes each day.

All you have to do is show up every day…

Over the course of the month, the daily immersion will help you absorb the verbal expressions naturally, until you "just know" instinctively how they work.

The result is that you'll be able to speak and understand Japanese confidently, use the correct verb endings and choose the right particle every time.

You'll use Japanese verbs freely and fluently, because...

1) You'll instinctively know which verbs to use...

2) The correct verb endings and particles you need will already be where you need them - on the tip of your tongue!

Here's What's Included...

The concept is beautifully simple!

Every day, for 30 days, you’ll get:

  • One 250-word chapter of our Japanese story (jam-packed with examples of essential Japanese verbal expressions in context)
  • The written story plus audio book (so you can read or listen...wherever you are!)
  • An insightful daily video lesson with our instructor, Jeremy. (He'll explain the different verbal expressions used in the story)
  • A short daily practice exercise (to help you remember what you’ve learned)
  • Discussion with dozens of fellow challengers in our interactive Facebook group (so you can discuss the story and get answers to questions).

We’ve carefully structured the entire 30 days, so all you have to do is turn up and get stuck in!

Frequently Asked Questions

What level is the challenge for?
Both the story and the lesson content is aimed at students with an N4 level of grammar and vocabulary and an N5 level knowledge of kanji. (That's high-beginner to low-intermediate). In other words, this is for you if you've been studying Japanese for a little while (or maybe a long while!) and can understand at least some Japanese, but struggle to express yourself in a comfortable and natural way.
How can I access the challenge?
Mobile, desktop, laptop, tablet... The challenge is super user-friendly and you'll be able to log on from anywhere!
What exactly will I learn? How will this challenge help me?
During this challenge, we'll focus on Japanese verbs. You'll see the most important Japanese verbal expressions recycled over and over throughout the story. This means you'll learn how Japanese verbal expressions work to the point where they are effortless and automatic and you can use and understand them instinctively. You'll get daily lessons from Jeremy, where you'll learn specifically how and why certain verbs are used in each example. This means you'll develop an intuitive and native-like understanding of how to use them yourself.
What if it's too hard, or my level is too low?
To make the challenge achievable, we've kept each chapter short - only 250 words! This means that you'll be able to easily make it to the end of the chapter each day, even if it does take you a little longer. However, the daily video lessons will give you all the support you need, as you'll have clear, professional explanations for how verbal expressions are used in the story. This means that, even if you're really unsure about the Japanese verbal expressions right now, just by watching and studying the daily videos, you'll learn to think about them like a native speaker by the end of the challenge. If I had my way, this is the only way students would ever learn Japanese!
What's so special about this "StoryLearning" method anyway?
Most Japanese students try to learn verbal expressions through rules and memory tricks. This doesn't work, and is extremely stressful for you as a learner. Why? Because there are hundreds of verbal expressions to learn and it's impossible to hold them all in your head at the same time while you're speaking if you rely on memory tricks. It's also not a natural approach.... native speakers don't expand their vocabulary with rules, after all! With the "Victorious Verbal Expressions" challenge, you'll learn through example and context, just like native speakers do! The magic of learning through story is that your main focus is actually not on the grammar or learning new vocabualry... you concentrate on understanding and enjoying the story! As you're reading and listening to the story, the verbal expressions will begin to lodge themselves subconsciously in your brain. It doesn't happen right away - in fact it may take a couple of weeks for you to feel the real effects. But by the end of the 30 days, you'll have a native-like command of Japanese verbal expressions that will amaze you.
I'm not sure I can commit for 30 days
Your daily commitment is only 15 minutes. This is because the principle of the challenge is that "little and often is the best way to learn". 15 minutes is a pretty manageable amount of time to devote to your Japanese. You can fit it in comfortably: • before breakfast • during your lunch break • after dinner • ...even while waiting for the bus! The power is in the consistency - working at it for a short time every day. You'll be amazed at the huge progress you make from simply showing up every day to work on one area of your Japanese! Remember, you get the audio of the story, as well as the text, so you can easily take part and keep up wherever you happen to be!
What if I am unhappy with the challenge?
I would never want you to be unhappy! If you are unsatisfied with the challenge, contact me at any point during the challenge and I'll issue you a full and prompt refund.
How long do I have access to the course after the end of the challenge?
How does lifetime access sound? After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like - across any and all devices you own.
Does the story in this challenge come with furigana? Is there romaji?
You'll receive three versions of the Japanese story. One is written in full Japanese script with furigana above the kanji. The second is written in full Japanese, without furigana. We also include a romaji version of the text.
