30-DAY STORYLEARNING® CHALLENGE

Word Order Wizardry

Take our grammar-slaying, fluency-boosting February challenge and master Japanese sentence structure once and for all!

Start Date: 1 February

Do you struggle with word order in Japanese?

You know what I mean...

  • You make glaring mistakes when using even simple Japanese sentences
  • Native speakers struggle to understand you because your word order is jumbled and your sentences don't make sense
  • You become self-conscious when you speak Japanese because you don’t feel confident stringing words together

If these Japanese sentence structure makes you want to tear your hair out, then I’ve got news for you…

You’re not alone!

In fact, Japanese learners from Osaka to Ohio have a hard time getting to grips with word order in Japanese.

  • Remembering which words go where when you’re not even sure what they mean
  • Factoring in verbs and making sure to put them in the right part of the sentence
  • And translating everything in your head before you speak because these strange structures feel so unnatural to you

And doing all of that while face-to-face with a native Japanese speaker!

It's easy to feel like you'll never truly get your head around Japanese sentence structure. It's just one of those things you'll have to live with, right?

Well, not so fast...

Help is at hand!

I’ve created a unique 30-day challenge, "Word Order Wizardry", that will help you learn and internalise Japanese sentence structure, so you can express yourself confidently and correctly in conversation with native Japanese speakers.

No more boring grammar textbooks.

No more memorising rules.

And most importantly...

No more frustrating word order mistakes when you chat with your Japanese-speaking family and friends.

Introducing the February Challenge:

"Word Order Wizardry"

With...

Here’s how the challenge works.

The challenge is based on an exciting original story in Japanese that develops over the 30 days of the challenge.

This is a brand new story, written exclusively for this 30-Day Challenge.

We’ve created the story to be jam-packed with examples all the different Japanese sentence structures you're ever likely to need.

Every day, you’ll receive one new chapter of the story, along with a short video lesson and simple exercises to help you understand how Japanese sentences structure works in the story.

It'll take you about 15 minutes each day.

All you have to do is show up every day…

Over the course of the month, the daily immersion will help you absorb the grammar naturally, until you "just know" instinctively how Japanese sentences work.

The result is that you'll be able to speak Japanese confidently without worrying about word order or trying to piece your sentences together in your head before you talk.

Instead, you'll use form Japanese sentences freely and fluently, because...

1) You'll instinctively know which order to place the words in...

2) The structures you need will already be where you need them - on the tip of your tongue!

Here's What's Included...

The concept is beautifully simple!

Every day, for 30 days, you’ll get:

  • One 250-word chapter of our Japanese story (jam-packed examples of different sentences structures in context)
  • The written story plus audio book (so you can read or listen...wherever you are!)
  • A short 5-minute video lesson with our instructor, Jeremy. (He'll explain the different sentence structures used in the story)
  • A short daily practice exercise (to help you remember what you’ve learned)
  • Discussion with dozens of fellow challengers in our interactive Facebook group (so you can discuss the story and get answers to questions).

We’ve carefully structured the entire 30 days, so all you have to do is turn up and get stuck in!

Frequently Asked Questions

What level is the challenge for?
Both the story and the lesson content is aimed at students with an N4 level of grammar and vocabulary and an N5 level knowledge of kanji. (That's high-beginner to low-intermediate). In other words, this is for you if you've been studying Japanese for a little while (or maybe a long while!), can understand at least some Japanese, but struggle to express yourself in a comfortable and natural way.
How can I access the challenge?
Mobile, desktop, laptop, tablet... The challenge is super user-friendly and you'll be able to log on from anywhere!
What exactly will I learn? How will this challenge help me?
During this challenge, we'll focus on the Japanese word order in both basic and complex sentences recycled over and over throughout the story. You'll see a number of different common situations over and over in the story. This means you'll learn how Japanese word order works to the point where it's effortless and automatic and you'll learn to know instinctively how to structure your Japanese sentences. You'll get daily lessons from Jeremy, where you'll learn why specifically why certain structures are used in each example. This means you'll develop an intuitive and native-like understanding of how to structure your own Japanese sentences.
What if it's too hard, or my level is too low?
To make the challenge achievable, we've kept each chapter short - only 250 words! This means that you'll be able to easily make it to the end of the chapter each day, even if it does take you a little longer. However, the daily video lessons will give you all the support you need, as you'll have clear, professional explanations for how sentences are formed in the story. This means that, even if you're really unsure about the Japanese sentence structure right now, just by watching and studying the daily videos, you'll learn to think about it like a native speaker by the end of the challenge. If I had my way, this is the only way students would ever learn Japanese grammar!
What's so special about this "StoryLearning" method anyway?
Most Japanese students try to learn sentence structure through rules. This doesn't work, and is extremely stressful for you as a learner. Why? Because there are lots of so-called "rules" and it's impossible to hold them all in your head at the same time while you're speaking. It's also not a natural approach ... native speakers don't learn grammar with rules, after all! With the "Word Order Wizardry" challenge, you'll learn through example and context, just like native speakers do! The magic of learning through story is that your main focus is actually not on the grammar... you concentrate on understanding and enjoying the story! As you're reading and listening to the story, the sentence structure will begin to lodge itself subconsciously in your brain. It doesn't happen right away - in fact it may take a couple of weeks for you to feel the real effects. But by the end of the 30 days, you'll have a native-like command of Japanese word order that will amaze you.
I'm not sure I can commit for 30 days
Your daily commitment is only 15 minutes. This is because the principle of the challenge is little and often is the best way to learn. 15 minutes is a pretty manageable amount of time to devote to your Japanese. You can fit it in comfortably: • before breakfast • during your lunch break • after dinner • ...even while waiting for the bus! The power is in the consistency - working at it for a short time every day. You'll be amazed at the huge progress you make from simply showing up every day to work on one area of your Japanese! Remember, you get the audio of the story, as well as the text, so you can easily take part and keep up wherever you happen to be!
What if I am unhappy with the challenge?
I would never want you to be unhappy! If you are unsatisfied with the challenge, contact me at any point during the challenge and I'll issue you full and prompt refund.
How long do I have access to the course after the end of the challenge?
How does lifetime access sound? After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like - across any and all devices you own.
Does the story in this challenge come with furigana?
You'll receive two versions of the Japanese story. One is written in full Japanese script with furigana above the kanji. The other is written without furigana. We have avoided romaji because it is essential to learn to read kana after the beginner stage.
