30-DAY STORYLEARNING® CHALLENGE

Subjunctive Made Simple

Take our grammar-slaying, fluency-boosting November challenge and master the sneaky Spanish subjunctive once and for all!

Start Date: 1 November

Level: A2/B1 (Upper Beginner / Lower Intermediate)

If you struggle with the subjunctive mood in Spanish, then I’ve got news for you…

You’re not alone

In fact, Spanish learners from México to Madrid and Panamá to Patagonia have a hard time getting to grips with the subjunctive mood.

  • Figuring out what on earth the subjunctive is in the first place
  • Choosing when to use the subjunctive and when to use the indicative mood
  • Memorising verb conjugations in a bunch of different tenses

And doing all of that while face-to-face with a native Spanish speaker!

  • Is it "espero que estás bien"? ... OR "espero que estés bien"?
  • And what's the difference anyway?

With the subjunctive, it's easy to feel like you'll never truly get your head around it. It's just one of those things you'll have to live with, right?

Well, not so fast...

Help is at hand!

I’ve created a unique 30-day challenge, "Subjunctive Made Simple", that will help you learn and internalise the Spanish subjunctive mood, so you can use it confidently and correctly in conversation with native Spanish speakers.

No more boring grammar textbooks.

No more memorising rules.

And most importantly...

No more frustrating Spanish subjunctive mistakes when you chat with your Spanish-speaking family and friends.

Introducing the November Challenge:

"Subjunctive Made Simple"

With...

Here’s how the challenge works.

The challenge is based on an exciting original story in Spanish that develops over the 30 days of the challenge.

This is a brand new story, written exclusively for this 30-Day Challenge.

We’ve created the story to be jam-packed with examples of the subjunctive mood used in all key verb tenses.

Every day, you’ll receive one new chapter of the story, along with short video lessons and simple exercises to help you understand how the subjunctive is used in the story.

It'll take you about 15 minutes each day.

All you have to do is show up every day…

Over the course of the month, the daily immersion will help you absorb the subjunctive naturally, until you "just know" instinctively whether you need to use the subjunctive or not.

The result is that you'll be able to speak Spanish confidently without worrying about the subjunctive or trying to figure it out in your head before you talk.

Instead, you'll use the subjunctive freely and fluently, because...

1) You'll instinctively know when you need to use it and...

2) The subjunctive verb conjugations will already be where you need them - on the tip of your tongue!

Here's What's Included...

The concept is beautifully simple!

Every day, for 30 days, you’ll get:

  • One 250-word chapter of our Spanish story (jam-packed examples of the subjunctive in context)
  • The written story plus audio book (so you can read or listen...wherever you are!)
  • A short 5-minute video lesson with our instructor, María. (She’ll explain the usage of the subjunctive verbs in the story)
  • A short daily practice exercise (to help you remember what you’ve learned)
  • Discussion with dozens of fellow challengers in our interactive Facebook group (so you can discuss the story and get answers to questions).

We’ve carefully structured the entire 30 days, so all you have to do is turn up and get stuck in!

Frequently Asked Questions

What level is the challenge for?
Both the story and the lesson content is aimed at A2-B1 level. (That's high-beginner to low-intermediate) In other words, this is for you if you've been studying Spanish for a little while (or maybe a long while!), can understand at least some Spanish, but struggle to use the subjunctive in a comfortable and natural way.
How can I access the challenge?
Mobile, desktop, laptop, tablet... The challenge is super user-friendly and you'll be able to log on from anywhere!
What exactly will I learn? How will this challenge help me?
During this challenge, we'll focus on the subjunctive mood in all common tenses, recycled over and over throughout the story. You'll see the subjunctive mood used in a number of different common situations over and over in the story. This means you'll learn the various subjunctive conjugations to the point where they're effortless and automatic and you'll learn to know instinctively know when a subjunctive verb is needed. You'll get daily lessons from María, where you'll learn why specifically why the subjunctive is used in each example. This means you'll develop an intuitive and native-like understanding of when to use the subjunctive mood.
What variety of Spanish do you use in the course?
We use neutral Spanish where possible, but use Castilian Spanish where a choice must be made. María, our tutor, is from Spain. But let me be clear: This challenge is for all learners and all varieties of Spanish. When it comes to grammar, you need to learn to think like a native. And native Spanish speakers have the same internal understanding of Spanish...wherever they come from. It's this native-like understanding of Spanish grammar that you'll develop from this challenge. True, there are some variations in grammar from country to country (Spanish from Spain tends to use more of the pretérito perfecto compuesto, for example), but the differences are small and easily adaptable. If you're taking pronunciation classes or studying local slang, then it makes sense to find a tutor who is local to your country of interest, but when it comes to grammar, the concepts are universal.
What if it's too hard, or my level is too low?
To make the challenge achievable, we've kept each chapter short - only 250 words! This means that you'll be able to easily make it to the end of the chapter each day, even if it does take you a little longer. However, the daily video lessons will give you all the support you need, as you'll have clear, professional explanations for why and how the subjunctive is used in the story. This means that, even if you're really unsure about the subjunctive right now, just by watching and studying the daily videos, you'll learn to think about it like a native speaker by the end of the challenge. If I had my way, this is the only way students would ever learn Spanish grammar!
What's so special about this "story" method anyway?
Most Spanish students try to learn the subjunctive through rules. This doesn't work, and is extremely stressful for you as a learner. Why? Because there are lots of so-called "rules" and it's impossible to hold them all in your head at the same time while you're speaking. It's also not a natural approach ... native speakers don't learn grammar with rules, after all! With the "Subjunctive Made Simple" challenge, you'll learn through example and context, just like native speakers do! The magic of learning through story is that your main focus is actually not on the grammar... you concentrate on understanding and enjoying the story! As you're reading and listening to the story, the subjunctive will begin to lodge itself subconsciously in your brain. It doesn't happen right away - in fact it may take a couple of weeks for you to feel the real effects. But by the end of the 30 days, you'll have a native-like command of the subjunctive mood that will amaze you.
I'm not sure I can commit for 30 days
Your daily commitment is only 15 minutes. This is because the principle of the challenge is little and often is the best way to learn. 15 minutes is a pretty manageable amount of time to devote to your Spanish. You can fit it in comfortably: • before breakfast • during your lunch break • after dinner • ...even while waiting for the bus! The power is in the consistency - working at it for a short time every day. You'll be amazed at the huge progress you make from simply showing up every day to work on one area of your Spanish! Remember, you get the audio of the story, as well as the text, so you can easily take part and keep up wherever you happen to be!
What if I am unhappy with the challenge?
I would never want you to be unhappy! If you are unsatisfied with the challenge, contact me at any point during the challenge and I'll issue you full and prompt refund.
How long do I have access to the course after the end of the challenge?
How does lifetime access sound? After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like - across any and all devices you own.
